Gamut Theatre Summer Academy (GTSA) is the ultimate summer experience for young actors ready to strengthen their skills andshine on stage! Students will dive into the exciting world of theatre—exploring acting, movement, voice, improv, and storytelling while building confidence and creativity. Each week offers a unique focus, from performing Shakespeare’s timeless plays to creating original works and exploring stories from around the world. Guided by professional teaching artists, students will develop new skills, make lasting friendships, and showcase their talents in performances for family and friends.

Dynamic Classes That Inspire Creativity
Each week, students will dive into a variety of exciting classes designed to sharpen their skills and ignite their imaginations:
Voice: Discover how to project, articulate, and use expressive techniques to make every word resonate on stage.
Movement: Learn how to tell compelling stories through physicality, stage presence, and dynamic body language.
Acting: Develop strong performance techniques through scene work, character exploration, and emotional connection.
Improv: Get ready to think on your feet with fast-paced games and exercises that encourage spontaneity, creativity, and teamwork.
Writing: Unleash your inner playwright by crafting original scripts, scenes, and monologues, turning ideas into performance-ready material.
Design: Dive into the world of set, costume, and prop design, learning how to create the visual magic that brings a story to life.

At GTSA, students don’t just learn about theatre—they bring it to life! At the end of each week, they’ll showcase their hard work in exciting, live performances for family and friends, giving them the chance to shine on stage and experience the thrill of a real theatrical production!
Collaborate, Create, and Connect
Students will work in small groups of like-minded peers on projects and activities that encourage creativity, collaboration, and professionalism. Along the way, they’ll develop leadership skills, practice teamwork, and learn the ins and outs of working in a professional theatre environment. And of course, there will be plenty of time for fun and socializing—because theatre is all about community!

GTSA is more than just a place to learn—it’s a place to belong. Students will meet fellow theatre lovers from different schools and backgrounds, building friendships while working toward common creative goals. Whether reconnecting with old friends or making new ones, GTSA is a supportive space where every young artist feels welcome, valued, and inspired.
What’s a typical day at the GTSA?
At GTSA, students are grouped into age-specific classes, with each class capped at just 15 students to ensure personalized attention and a tight-knit learning environment. Throughout the day, students will engage in focused, interactive lessons in Acting, Voice, Movement, Improv, Writing, and Design—working closely with their peers and teaching artists. In the afternoons, the entire student body comes together to collaborate on creating and perfecting the final performance of the week for family and friends to enjoy.
For your convenience, drop-off is from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM,
and pick-up is from 5:00 PM to 5:15 PM each day.
WEEKLY THEMES
Week ONE: Shakespeare’s Tragedies - MACBETH
”By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes!”
This week, we will dive into Shakespeare’s dark and thrilling tragedy, Macbeth! Students will work on developing their acting, voice, and movement skills to bring the play’s iconic characters and eerie atmosphere to life.
Week TWO: Shakespeare’s Comedies - A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM
”Lord, what fools these mortals be!”
Step into the enchanted world of A Midsummer Night’s Dream! This week, students will explore Shakespeare’s whimsical comedy filled with mischievous fairies, star-crossed lovers, and hilarious misunderstandings.
Week THREE: Traveling Tales
Embark on a global adventure with Traveling Tales! This exciting week focuses on the art of storytelling as students explore myths, legends, and folktales from around the world. From ancient fables to modern tales, students will develop their own unique storytelling style while celebrating cultures from across the globe.
Week FOUR: Page to Stage
Unleash your creativity in Page to Stage! This week, students will become playwrights, directors, and designers as they craft their very own original plays. From brainstorming ideas and writing scripts to directing scenes and designing sets, costumes, and props, young artists will take full control of the creative process. Students will bring their unique stories to life, gaining valuable experience both on and off the stage.
Week FIVE: Shakespeare in the Woods: MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING
"I do love nothing in the world so well as you—is not that strange?"
Experience Shakespeare like never before with Shakespeare in the Woods! Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Ned Smith Center in Millersburg, students will bring Much Ado About Nothing to life in their outdoor ampitheatre! Actors will explore this witty, fast-paced comedy through voice, movement, and character workshops, all while embracing the natural environment as their stage. With plenty of opportunities for creativity and collaboration, students will develop their performance skills and connect with Shakespeare’s timeless humor.

Teacher’s Assistant & Counselor Program
GTSA will employ three (3) Teaching Assistants and three (3) Counselors for the 2025 Summer Program. GTSA is looking for applicants who demonstrate leadership skills, have experience working with children, display warm and friendly personalities, and embrace a good sense of humor. Anyone with a serious interest in theatre and/or education is encouraged to apply. Must be 17 years of age or older before July 7, 2025. Apply HERE!
Are you in need of financial assistance to attend a Gamut Theatre Education Program?
Contact our Office Manager at gamut.office@gmail.com to ask for a scholarship application.
Scholarship applications are due on May 15th. Any applications received after that will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis but assistance is not guaranteed.
Scholarship applications will be reviewed at the end of May, and all decisions regarding scholarships will be communicated with applicants no later than June 7th.
